A run should leave you stronger
The official loop connects Gold to weapon and gear progress. The useful milestone is the result you bring back and use, not just the time survived.
Collect experience and choose levels that develop a coherent build.
Beat the boss, then treat the ghost phase as a new risk decision.
Bank the run through the portal while you can still reach it.
Use the lobby: claim, open, equip and upgrade are separate actions.
Enter again with one improvement and a clear next objective.
The same “weak build” can need two different fixes
Imagine two attempts with the same equipped weapon. In the first, you spend most of the run unable to clear the pack and never reach the boss. In the second, the boss falls, but you stay for a larger bonus and ghosts close the return route. Buying more offense is not equally useful in both cases.
Stalled before the boss
First inspect what is equipped and which evolution ingredient is behind. If the loadout is correct but enemies barely lose health, damage or attack speed is a useful upgrade to assess. Judge the next attempt by whether you reach the boss more reliably.

The build has already cleared the main fight. Change the bank decision first: use a comfortable exit and keep your class movement available while a safe destination remains. Judge the next attempt by a lobby return, not a bigger unbanked counter.
Plan an exit before the route closesThese are editorial choices based on the observed game loop, not tested damage rankings or profit thresholds. Change one part of the next attempt so you can tell which problem improved.

A stronger loadout opens more options, but “progress” is not one single target. Pick the result you are trying to earn now.

Work through Campaign toward the 20-map Gauntlet. Check which maps remain rather than assuming a long survival time unlocks the next goal.
